বিশ্বের শক্তিশালী পাসপোর্টের তালিকায় বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান উন্নত হয়েছে। 

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রভিত্তিক নাগরিকত্ব ও পরিকল্পনা সংস্থা 'দ্য হেনলি অ্যান্ড পার্টনার্স' এর প্রকাশিত র‌্যাংকিংয়ে এই তথ্য উঠে এসেছে। সংস্থাটি প্রতি বছর বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশের পাসপোর্টের শক্তি মূল্যায়ন করে এই তালিকা প্রকাশ করে। ২০২০ সালের র‌্যাংকিংয়ে বাংলাদেশ এক ধাপ এগিয়ে ৯৮তম অবস্থানে এসেছে। ২০০৬ সালে বাংলাদেশ এই তালিকায় ছিল ৬৮তম স্থানে, তবে এরপর ক্রমান্বয়ে অবনতি হয়, ২০১৮ সালে এটি ১০০তম অবস্থানে নেমে আসে, আর ২০১৯ সালে ছিল ৯৯তম স্থানে।


একটি দেশের পাসপোর্ট দিয়ে কতটি দেশে ভিসা ছাড়া বা অন অ্যারাইভাল ভিসা নিয়ে ভ্রমণ করা যায়, সেই ভিত্তিতে এই র‌্যাংকিং তৈরি করা হয়েছে। প্রতিবেদনের তথ্যানুযায়ী, র‌্যাংকিংয়ে উন্নতি হলেও, বাংলাদেশিদের জন্য ‘ভিসা ফ্রি’ সুবিধা প্রাপ্ত দেশের সংখ্যা অপরিবর্তিত রয়েছে। বাংলাদেশি পাসপোর্ট নিয়ে বর্তমানে বিশ্বের ৪১টি দেশে ভিসা ছাড়াই ভ্রমণ করা যায়। এর মধ্যে এশিয়ার ভুটান, ইন্দোনেশিয়া, মালদ্বীপ, নেপাল, শ্রীলঙ্কা ও পূর্ব তিমুর উল্লেখযোগ্য। এছাড়া আফ্রিকার ১৬টি, ওশেনিয়ার ৭টি এবং ক্যারিবীয় অঞ্চলের ১২টি দেশে বাংলাদেশের পাসপোর্টে ‘ভিসা ফ্রি’ সুবিধা রয়েছে।


সম্প্রতি বাংলাদেশ ইলেকট্রনিক পাসপোর্ট (ই-পাসপোর্ট) যুগে প্রবেশ করেছে। দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় প্রথম এবং বিশ্বে ১১৯তম দেশ হিসেবে বাংলাদেশ ই-পাসপোর্ট চালু করেছে। বিশেষজ্ঞরা মনে করছেন, ই-পাসপোর্টের প্রবর্তন বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান আরও শক্তিশালী করবে। বিদেশে ভ্রমণের সময় বাংলাদেশি নাগরিকদের জন্য ইমিগ্রেশন প্রক্রিয়াও আরও সহজ হবে।

সাবেক কূটনীতিক হুমায়ুন কবির বলেন, পাসপোর্টের মাধ্যমে আসলে পরোক্ষভাবে একজন নাগরিকের মূল্যায়ন করা হয়। এই র‌্যাংকিংয়ের মাধ্যমে বোঝা যায়, আন্তর্জাতিক পরিমণ্ডলে আপনার দেশ এবং পাসপোর্ট সম্পর্কে অন্যান্য দেশের মূল্যায়ন কেমন। পাসপোর্টের র‌্যাংকিং শুধু দেশের অর্থনীতি নয়, শাসন ব্যবস্থা এবং দেশের মানুষের সার্বিক অবস্থার প্রতিফলন হিসেবেও গণ্য করা হয়।


তিনি ব্যাখ্যা করেন যে, বিভিন্ন স্টেকহোল্ডারদের মতামতের ভিত্তিতে পাসপোর্টের মান নির্ধারণ করা হয়। কোনো পাসপোর্টের মূল্য কতটা বেশি বা কম তা নির্ভর করে সেই পাসপোর্টের নিরাপত্তা এবং অন্যান্য বৈশিষ্ট্যের ওপর। উদাহরণ হিসেবে তিনি বলেন, ব্রিটিশ বা আমেরিকান পাসপোর্ট জাল করা অত্যন্ত কঠিন, যেখানে তুলনামূলকভাবে বাংলাদেশের পাসপোর্ট জাল করা সহজ। যে দেশগুলোর পাসপোর্টের মূল্য বেশি, ধারণা করা হয় যে সেসব দেশের প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক কাঠামো শক্তিশালী, অর্থনীতি সমৃদ্ধ এবং শাসনব্যবস্থা মজবুত। সেই দেশগুলোর আন্তর্জাতিক পরিমণ্ডলে ইতিবাচক ভাবমূর্তি রয়েছে।


তিনি আরও বলেন, পাসপোর্টের র‌্যাংকিংয়ে উপরের দিকে থাকা দেশের নাগরিকেরা ভিসার জন্য আবেদন করলে তুলনামূলক ভালো ব্যবহার পেয়ে থাকেন এবং অনেক ক্ষেত্রে ভিসা প্রাপ্তি প্রক্রিয়া সহজ হয়। অন্যদিকে, র‌্যাংকিংয়ে নিচের দিকে থাকা পাসপোর্টধারীদের জন্য দূতাবাসগুলো প্রায়শই অতিরিক্ত তথ্য চায় এবং ভিসা আবেদন নাকচ করার প্রবণতাও বেশি থাকে।

দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার দেশগুলোর মধ্যে পাসপোর্টের র‌্যাংকিংয়ে শীর্ষে রয়েছে মালদ্বীপ, যার অবস্থান ৬১তম। মালদ্বীপের পাসপোর্ট দিয়ে ৮৫টি দেশে ভিসা ছাড়া ভ্রমণ করা যায়। এই অঞ্চলে মালদ্বীপের পরে ভারতের পাসপোর্ট রয়েছে ৮৪তম অবস্থানে, যার মাধ্যমে ৫৮টি দেশে ভিসাবিহীন প্রবেশ করা সম্ভব। শ্রীলংকা ৯৭তম, নেপাল ১০১তম এবং পাকিস্তান ১০৪তম স্থানে রয়েছে।


এই র‌্যাংকিংয়ে মোট ১০৭টি দেশের পাসপোর্ট অন্তর্ভুক্ত রয়েছে। ধারাবাহিকভাবে তালিকার শীর্ষে রয়েছে জাপান, যার পাসপোর্টধারীরা ১৯১টি দেশে ভিসা ছাড়াই ভ্রমণ করতে পারেন। গত বছর এই সংখ্যা ছিল ১৯০। দ্বিতীয় অবস্থানে রয়েছে সিঙ্গাপুর, যাদের পাসপোর্টে ১৯০টি দেশে অন অ্যারাইভাল ভিসার সুবিধা রয়েছে। তৃতীয় স্থানে দক্ষিণ কোরিয়ার পাসপোর্ট, যা ১৮৯টি দেশে ভিসাবিহীন ভ্রমণের সুযোগ দেয়। শক্তিশালী পাসপোর্টের তালিকায় পরবর্তী ১৩টি দেশ ইউরোপের।


দক্ষিণ কোরিয়ার সঙ্গে যৌথভাবে তৃতীয় অবস্থানে আছে জার্মানির পাসপোর্ট, যা ১৮৯টি দেশে অন অ্যারাইভাল ভিসার সুবিধা দেয়। চতুর্থ স্থানে আছে ইতালি ও ফিনল্যান্ড। পঞ্চম স্থানে রয়েছে স্পেন, লুক্সেমবুর্গ ও ডেনমার্কের পাসপোর্ট। ষষ্ঠ স্থানে রয়েছে সুইডেন ও ফ্রান্স। এরপরের অবস্থানে রয়েছে সুইজারল্যান্ড ও নেদারল্যান্ডসহ ৫টি দেশ। যুক্তরাষ্ট্র এবং যুক্তরাজ্য যৌথভাবে অষ্টম অবস্থানে রয়েছে, তাদের পাসপোর্টে ১৮৪টি দেশে ভিসা ছাড়া ভ্রমণের সুযোগ আছে।

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have reported that Israel has launched a ground operation targeting specific sites in southern Lebanon, which they describe as threats to Israeli communities.

According to Lebanese officials, at least a thousand people have died in the past two weeks, and more than a million may be displaced from their homes.

Both U.S. President Joe Biden and U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy have emphasized the need for a ceasefire, while also asserting that Israel has the right to defend itself.

A Palestinian official has stated that Israel has carried out a military attack on Ain al-Hilweh, the largest refugee camp in Lebanon.

Both AFP and Reuters, citing local officials, reported that the target of the attack was the military wing of the Palestinian group Fatah.

While the conflict is described as "limited" and specific, there is no guarantee that it will remain that straightforward.

After more than a week of extensive Israeli airstrikes, it's difficult to assess how much of Hezbollah's military infrastructure remains intact.

If they still have sufficient ammunition, there is a possibility that they could launch attacks towards cities within Israel.

Similar to the Houthis in Yemen or military groups in Syria and Iraq, other Iran-backed forces in the region could also target Israeli positions or U.S. military installations nearby.

Iran may also take steps to conduct another attack, similar to what occurred last April. All of this is possible, but some may not happen.

However, it marks yet another perilous moment for the region.

Masum Ali from Bhairamara, Kushtia, went to Malaysia as a laborer in January. For the first two months, he couldn't find any work and had to endure a sort of 'imprisonment' while being shuffled between various brokers.

In the third month, he finally secured a job with a company, but all his documents, including his passport, were confiscated.

During this time, he kept his wife informed about the situation back in Kushtia, telling her that he couldn't handle the excessive work pressure. 

“I worked from morning till night, and often I was called in the middle of the night to work. Meals were inadequate, and there was constant verbal abuse and physical violence,” said Masum's wife, Ratna Begum.

Ratna Begum told the BBC that after working for a month at the new company, her husband attempted to escape, but he was caught. She claims that after this, he began to face physical abuse. For the past month, she has had no news of her husband.

“A few days before Eid in April, my husband suddenly called me. He said he was being severely beaten and blood was oozing from the side of his ear. He showed me through a video call and said they would kill him. 'Save me,' he pleaded. Just then, the call dropped, and I haven’t heard from him since,” she recounted.

The broker through whom Masum went to Malaysia also resides there. Ratna tried to contact him to save her husband, but he couldn’t provide any information either.

Ratna Begum is at a loss about what to do or where to go. She doesn't even know if her husband is alive or dead.

Every year, Malaysia is one of the key destinations for labor export from Bangladesh, with over 1.4 million Bangladeshis going there as workers. Many of these workers have reported facing fraud and human rights violations upon arrival, a concern that is not new.

However, the recent surge in such incidents has prompted various international organizations, including the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to speak out.

But what kind of conditions are Bangladeshi workers encountering once they arrive in Malaysia? And why are they subjected to such abuse in the country? These are pressing questions that need to be addressed.

Mannan Mia (a pseudonym) went to Malaysia eight months ago from Dhaka. He traveled with 35 others on the same flight, all under the same company.

Before their departure, they had a contract with a recruiting agency that specified their salary and the name of the employer company.

However, upon arriving in Malaysia, that contract became ineffective. Mannan claims that each of them was sold to a different company for nearly two lakh taka per person. In this new arrangement, they were offered wages that were less than half of what had been promised.
